We’re getting ready for a stunning holiday season here at 21 Rio. Like the rest of Austin and our surrounding area, we’re especially looking forward to a favorite seasonal pastime: touring the local light shows. If you’d like to join in on the holiday fun, check out these dazzling light displays around town.
Where Is Austin’s Best Light Show?
While it’s arguable whether the Austin Trail of Lights is the best holiday light show in Austin, it’s certainly the biggest and most established. With a history that spans 57 years, this is sure to be one of your favorite holiday experiences. Picture two million lights, 90 illuminated holiday trees, and dozens of festive displays and lighted tunnels.
Located in Zilker Park, this drive-thru experience lets you enjoy the views from the warmth and comfort of your car. Just pick up your vehicle pass before you head out and enjoy! And don’t forget, you can also make a donation, which will allow the trail to be accessible to everyone in Austin, no matter their financial circumstances. It’s a great way to give back to the community and spread the joy!
What Is the Most Unusual Light Show in Austin?
If you’re looking for something unique and beautiful to inspire your holidays in Austin, head over to the Botanic Garden and Arboretum of Texas (also known as The University of Texas at Austin Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center) for Luminations. Take a stroll through the arboretum while it’s decorated with luminarias and gain a fresh perspective on this outdoor gem. Plus, you can hang out in some creative – and creatively lit – structures in their Fortlandia exhibit.
Make sure to save room for the delicious seasonal treats, from the chocolate-dipped pretzels and hot chocolate to the flavored popcorn and brownies.
Is There Another Light Show in the Austin Region Worth Seeing?
You’ll find it’s more than worth the hour drive to New Braunfels in order to see the light show at Santa’s Ranch. Rivaling the Austin Trail of Lights in its sheer grandeur, this display offers a great reason to explore a new area outside the city. Grab something from their concession stand before you start and enjoy the ride!
