Take a Break with These Springtime Events in Austin

As the season changes, it’s important to take some time away from your usual routine in order to relax and rejuvenate. Lucky for you, with 21 Rio as your home base, you’ll find several upcoming events that will give you a break from everyday life and a chance to refresh your mind and body. In fact, as you’ll see, you won’t even have to leave your apartment to enjoy Austin’s spring celebrations. Here are a few you won’t want to miss.

South by Southwest Film Festival

If you’d rather stay cozy on your couch, you can still enjoy one of Austin’s most exciting annual events – the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival. It’s all virtual this year, with 75 features, 84 short films, and much more. Be sure to check out Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil and Tom Petty, Somewhere You Feel Free. You’ll be able to enjoy this event through multiple platforms from March 16-20.

St. Patrick’s Day Austin

You don’t have to be Irish to observe this fun spring holiday. And this year, you don’t even have to leave home. This virtual event will feature all the Irish music and dancing you expect from this celebration, including Sean Keane, Jeff Moore, The Here and Now, The Silver Thistle Pipes and Drums, and the Inishfree Austin Irish Dancers. Make yourself some St. Patrick’s Day punch and enjoy the show!

Leo Steinberg Exhibition

Check out late art historian Leo Steinberg’s extensive collection of prints at the University of Texas at Austin’s Blanton Museum of Art, which will showcase pieces by Matisse, Picasso, and Jasper Johns. Through this collection, you’ll come to a better understanding of European printmaking, as well as the circulation of the “lifeblood of ideas,” as Steinberg once noted. Be sure to reserve your ticket ahead of time and bring a mask.

ABC Kite Fest

This famous Austin event is beloved by locals. Typically, it’s just what it sounds like – a festival of kites at Zilker Park. This year, the annual event is going virtual, taking place from March 27-28. Get on their mailing list to find out how to participate.

And in all the bustle of spring in Austin, Texas, don’t forget to take a few moments for yourself and just relax on your private balcony, contemplating the sunny spring season to come.
